About the Team

As an Associate, you will have good judgment, excellent analytical skills, and the intellectual rigor to provide high level advisory services on some of India’s largest transactions and specifically stamp duty advice to large multinational, listed and private company groups. You will possess a good working knowledge of the Indian tax law and experience in working with energy clients or major infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.

Our Tax Practice delivers comprehensive legal services on a broad spectrum of tax related matters to multinational corporations, financial institutions and high-net-worth individuals. We offer strategic advice on domestic and international tax planning, structuring and compliance. Our team assists clients with mergers and acquisitions, transfer pricing, tax disputes and litigation, and cross-border transactions, ensuring compliance with local and international tax laws.

We also provide guidance on tax efficient investment structures and the tax implications of various business decisions. By leveraging our extensive knowledge of global tax regulations and practices, we help clients minimise tax liabilities, navigate complex tax issues, and achieve their financial and business objectives.

About the Role

As a senior member of the team, you will be involved in:

  • providing expert income tax advice, including advice on State and Territory stamp duty matters across a variety of transactions.
  • providing tax advice on corporate restructures and asset sales on major transactions.
  • assisting with due diligence processes, identifying, and managing stamp duty related risks
  • drafting and reviewing transaction documentation, ensuring compliance with applicable stamp duty laws
  • liaising with State and Territory revenue authorities on transactions, rulings, exemptions, and disputes
  • staying updated on legislative changes and developments in tax laws across all Australian jurisdictions
  • collaborating with other practice areas, such as the project, corporate, property and finance teams to deliver integrated client solutions

Qualifications & Key Attributes

Legal Expertise: experience in structured debt, including e.g., securitisations, asset-backed financing, and structured finance transactions. A solid background in general financing and familiarity with various financing products and transactions is desirable.

Document Drafting: good document drafting skills, with an eye for detail and precision. You will be adept at producing clear, concise, and legally sound documentation.

Transaction Management: an ability to manage complex transactions efficiently, ensuring all aspects are handled meticulously from inception to completion.

Client Relations: a reputation among existing clients for providing and/or supporting pragmatic and commercial solutions. You will have a client-centric approach, understanding their commercial and legal needs and delivering tailored advice.

Communication and Analytical Skills: excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strong analytical abilities. You will be able to distil complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice.

Commercial Awareness: commercial awareness, understanding the broader business context in which legal advice is given. You will be able to anticipate and address the commercial implications of legal decisions.

Collaboration: experience of working effectively within multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary teams. You will be a team player, capable of collaborating with colleagues across different regions and specialisations.

Business Development: an appetite for business development, with a proactive approach to identifying and pursuing new opportunities and strengthening existing client relationships.
